UFO and cryptozoology researchers mourn loss of John Keel
Obituary - Michael Cohen
The world of UFO and paranormal research lost a leading light on June 3 2009. Author John Keel passed away on that day at the age of 79.
While Keel is best known for his book, 'The Mothman Prophecies' which the movie of the same name was based on, his work went well beyond this.
I was captivated by his writing years ago and while I don't necessarily subscribe to all of his ideas, I have certainly been most inspired by them.
Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman in eulogising Keel noted that 'The popular cultural influence of Keel has been enormous. It shall take future academic studies to fully realize his reach among the subculture that respects and are denizens of his ongoing intellectual playground.' I certainly agree with those sentiments.
Keel was also a champion of tolerance and anti-racism in a field that often sadly intersects with thinly disguised white supremacy and Nazi nativist nonsense epitomised by some of the garbage written about non-existent Venusians.
John Keel will be missed by both friends and admirers.

UFO’s, The Universe and the mysterious spider web
Spider webs have always been a source of fascination for the human race and spiders themselves, much like snakes, hold a special place in the psyche of human beings.
Today a small group of ufologists and even conventional scientists are looking to these delicate miracles of nature to unlock the secrets of our universe.
‘Spiders are in fact as intelligent as humans beings if not far more so’ comments Mr Yuen Chi an avid UFO researcher from the city of Dalian in China. ‘They are in fact of extraterrestrial origin from a highly advanced civilization. They have been exiled to earth for reasons we do not know’
‘In the radically different environmental conditions here on earth they are only able to express their intellect through weaving their magnificent webs’. Mr Yuen observed. ‘On their home planet entire cities and infrastructures are created from their silk, including communication networks.’
There are many theories as to what the webs actually are:
Some believe they are highly detailed maps of the universe or a galaxy. Others claim these maps contain information as to the precise location of individual spiders' home planets. ‘It is highly likely that humans might one day be able to use spider webs to locate other intelligent beings out there’ one Ufologist noted. ‘It is also highly likely that within the spider web vast information about other life bearing planets within the universe is coded’.
It is believed that spiders are able to pick up energy waves from outside the earth's atmosphere and then spin their precise and intricate maps of the universe exactly as it is at the time. It is no wonder astronomers so often compare the universe to a spider web.
‘The spider is a historian of the universe on earth, the web is his language. It is a language far more sophisticated than any human tongue. If one examines all the webs one spider weaves in its lifetime one may well have a clear picture of the history of the universe’ Mr Yuen comments.
Others have opined that the webs are not just galactic maps but also receivers and transmitters of messages from and to deep space. The web becomes the spider's way of keeping in touch with other regions within the universe. Messages sent from the spider via the web are picked up by space travellers. These messages allow alien travellers to pinpoint both the exact location of the spider and the home planet it so desires to return to.
If the spider is lucky it might get a lift home on a delicate spaceship spun of silk. It is believed that the almost weightless craft are able to surf electro-magnetic waves and then locate traversable wormholes that take them back to their home planet.
'These are the small glowing orbs one sees in forests. If you would catch one in your hand they would lose their charge and appear as nothing more than some dusty cobwebs' says Yuen. 'Perhaps some of these orbs are spun here on earth using instructions sent via the spider web'.
Many have observed that spiders often congregate in areas of intense UFO activity.
'Some say that their home planet contains hundreds of billions of spiders, all living in a landscape of complex spun silk structures' continues Yuen. 'Perhaps some colonise earth and other planets due to overcrowding back home' Yuen concludes.
It is not surprising therefore that recently scientists have found that by imitating the structure of a spider web they are able receive more precise information about the universe than ever before.
It is also suggested that the web might be used to communicate information regarding Earth to other civilizations.
Whatever the truth, the spider web will continue to amaze human beings for a very long time..

Mystery snake seen in war cemetery in Britain
D. Collins
The Cannock Chase area in Staffordshire in the UK has a long history of cryptid activity. Bigfoot, big-cats and even cavemen have been allegedly spotted and reported in the area.
Most curious are reports of large snakes in the vicinity of an old war cemetery. The well-known British cryptozoologist Nick Redfern has investigated and has uncovered three such reports. Recently an unnamed hiker claimed to have seen the snake and described it to a local newspaper as being 14 feet in length.
Mr Redfern recently interviewed a local resident Mr Norman Dodds who claims to have seen the creature emerge from a pond in 1976.
'It was a bloody stifling day. I remember swigging something to drink and having a bite when there was something moving on the bank. It sort of wriggled. It was like its whole body seemed to sort of shake and wobble as it moved. I know it saw me, or saw the car, definitely, because it looked right in this direction and then went back to what it was up to, just laying there.'
Theories as to what the creature may be range from dumped pet pythons to overgrown grass snakes to the spawn of the Loch Ness Monster.

UFO sightings, Bigfoot and The Truman Show
I am beginning to have some very weird thoughts about Bigfoot. Whether it’s the Yeti, Yowie or Sasquatch there is a consistency to all the thousands of reported sightings wherever they come from on this planet, China, the US, Russia, Australia. Yet no one ever seems to photograph anything conclusive let alone catch one. And my guess is it will go on like this for some time.
Perhaps Bigfoot is some kind of paranormal creature, maybe the ghost of some hominid population we wiped coming back to haunt us?
Much the same with UFOs, thousands of images, nothing conclusive.
It’s all either a blob of light or a hoax. UFO enthusiasts kid themselves that disclosure by the US Government will bring them closure. I am not so sure. The Brazilian Government pretty much did that and the files are very impressive…….but not conclusive. My guess is that when the US does disclose it will be much the same but with a way bigger, fancier set of files.
There is something about our existence on earth that doesn’t add up. Hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy, hundreds of billions of galaxies, yet according to conventional science no signs of anything out there? No one in all that mind boggling space with the ability or will to turn up in an open, conclusive manner?
Is that really possible? Or are we that boring that no-one even bothers to pop around?
The idea that there is no-one out there who has the capacity to travel the distance between where they are to where we are flies the face of the notion that ‘anything’s possible’. We go about our lives generally ignoring the fact that we have no idea why we are here and what we are part of. Science hasn’t really answered that question and I suspect it never will, as it may never take us to the furthest stars.
One of the funniest conspiracy theories posted on the ‘Above Top Secret’ website claimed that when the Astronauts allegedly landed on the moon some guy wearing gold chains, waving a cigar and speaking with a Brooklyn accent walked out of no-where saying ‘hey go away, you weren’t meant to come this far.’
Something’s not right. Elusive aliens might not be the ultimate answer. I am beginning to fear the reality is even far nastier, far more disturbing. Someone is playing a cruel trick on us.
I think there is a connection between Bigfoot and UFOs. This idea that every so often someone runs home swearing they either saw a seven-foot fur covered hominid or a saucer shining light on them from above and they can never prove it is part of the plot, deliberately thrown in for effect.
Personally, I think they are clues. Clues to the real, shocking conspiracy. One seems to hint at our past and the other at our future. And when we figure it all out, well then its game over.
