'Although most people in the West will be living lives immeasurably better than their forebears few will truly appreciate this allowing politicians, religious leaders and activists that play on peoples often irrational fears to seize the opportunity to claw back hard-won freedoms and progress, all for the rather sinister sake of propping up and restoring old power structures and with no concern for the benefit of the vast majority of people.
These forces, acting solely in their own interests and with a goal of taking away as much power from the majority of people as possible will make use of slogans such as 'a return to family values', 'faith based morality', 'protecting the children', they will feign concern over 'the breakdown of societal values' all for the real purpose of enslavement of the human race.
Generally this century will experience nowhere near the change of the 20th century and this will sap the creativity and dynamism of society as the world falls back into a pattern of monotony. A profound nihilism is creeping into western civilization and this too will feed into the popularity of old-time mainstream religions that basically offer nothing new and are unlikely to be agents of any positive change. Mediocrity and banality are set to flourish in this vacuum like no time in recent history.
Post-modern hopelessness will plague the young who no longer feel inspired by any of the movements that might have once inspired them, only those attracted to religion and nationalism will be energised: the coming decades will be their era. they will get their chance to restore the world 'to its rightful order' and do away with any attempt at making the majority of people happy. For this is the thing they hate the most.
At some point in the future the human race will become aware and angry over this stagnancy and the resultant drop in living standards and finally revolt against the enemies of change, and at this point a cataclysmic rethinking of our place in the universe and our abilities to travel throughout the universe and through other dimensions will move humanity foward, however this is centuries away and in the meantime human society is merely set to remain stagnant or even go backwards with only minor qualitative technological and medicinal improvements occurring.
